Q. Can I get more disk space, say, instead of extra bandwidth?

A. Upgrade paths are only samples. We are prepared to negotiate a custom plan to suit you. Just contact us. Oh, and we do review space limitations from time to time and increase them free of charge. Perhaps your request will result in just such a change.

Q. Can I reduce the amount of data transfer my site needs?

A. Usually yes. Try to optimize all the graphics on your site. Many GIFs don't look noticeably worse with fewer colors. Don't duplicate graphics files, let the browser cache them. Try to clean up your html by using relative paths, short filenames, fewer extras, and reducing the number of spaces and new lines.

Q. Can I use my account for commercial purposes ?

A. Yes, you can use your account for personal, organizational, or commercial purposes.

Q. Do you collect private information from your customers?

A. Only enough to identify you and your account (name, address, phone, eMail). Since we use payment centres, we do not collect or store credit card information. We also publish an extensive privacy policy on our site. No one else ever gets your information.

Q. Do you give me anything for bringing in customers?

A. If you refer a customer who signs up for a plan, you get a free month added to your hosting. Several customers have taken advantage of this.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Discounts

Q. Do you offer a discount on two or more plans?

A. Yes, we do. In general, if you want two plans of a particular size, you pay for one at the next level, which is a significant discount. Otherwise, we can work out a package for you. It will always be much less than the cost of two completely independent accounts.

Q. Do you offer credit facilities?

A. Not directly, as we are not selling financial instruments. All products must be paid for at the time of purchase through one of our payment providers.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Payment

Q. Do you offer tech support?

A. Yes. Use the contact form on this site or send a message to rsutc@arjay.org if this server is down.

Q. Do you suspend my account if I exceed my bandwidth limit for the month.

A. This is done automatically by the server software, yes. However, if it appears that this is caused by a routine traffic increase, and not by some illicit site use, we will immediately re-enable your account. If you exceed your limit for more than one month you should upgrade.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Bandwidth

Q. Does e-mail or FTP count toward my bandwidth limit?

A. Yes. All FTP and incoming/outgoing e-mail traffic counts toward your total monthly bandwidth.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Bandwidth

Q. How and when will you bill me?

A. A short time before your account expires, you will receive a notification via eMail with a due date and address to make your payment.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Billing

Q. How can I manage my database via the web?

A. For database setup, there is an option in your control panel. For finer control, use phpMyAdmin, also available from your control panel. It allows you to create and edit databases and the data in them.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Database

Q. How can other hosts make money when they offer higher transfer limits for lower prices than you do?

A. They really don't have that many resources to sell, but count on the fact that the majority of sites won't use anywhere close to the full amount of transfer available. This overselling is usually a valid assumption and it is done in many other businesses (e.g.. Airlines overbooking flights). However, we do NOT follow this practice. Instead, all our customers are always guaranteed the full resources contracted, regardless of what other customers are doing.

Q. How do I cancel my account?

A. Just contact us and tell us. You can cancel at any effective date, and will be refunded all full months of unused service.

Q. How do I pay for my account?

A. Our primary means are PayPal, KAGI, or a mailed cheque. From time to time, we may add other payment providers, but have no intentions of becoming a credit card accepter ourselves.

Q. How do you calculate bandwidth usage?

A. We calculate bandwidth usage based on your Web, Mail, FTP and other port usage. Usually 97% is by Web, Mail and FTP.

Q. How good is your server's connection to the rest of the Internet?

A. Your server is with a multiple Tier 1 bandwidth provider in a premium, U.S. based datacenter.

Q. How much data transfer will I need?

A. Estimate your average page size (including graphic) and multiplying it by the number of page views you expect to have in a month.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Bandwidth

e.g. With an average page size of 50 KB, and around 2000 page views per day, you will transfer an average of 3 GB per month. In this case, you should get a plan with 4 to 5 GB of data transfer limit per month, so you don't have to worry about overstepping your account's limit.

Q. How much does extra storage space cost?

A. Take a look at our site and check the cost of the next plan higher than yours.

Q. How much does it cost for you to host my web site?

A. This depends on how large a site you have and how much monthly traffic it will generate. The larger these numbers, the greater the cost, as we pay for the resources in the same way. Check our website for the various plans. If you are a beginner, start with the lowest plan. Don't pay for resources you won't use.

Q. How much extra is a gig of bandwidth?

A. Take a look at our site and check the cost of the next plan higher than yours.

Q. I changed my control panel password and now I can't get in. What do I do?

A. Passwords are case sensitive and are limited to 8 characters. If you entered a password longer than 8 characters try entering the first 8 characters when logging into your control panel. If you still cannot access your account contact us. If one of your users cannot access their mail, you can change their password yourself from your control panel.

Q. Is there a minimum time contract/commitment?

A. No. You pay yearly, six months, three months, or monthly according to the plan type but can cancel at any time.

Q. Is your price different for individuals and business users?

A. No. Our prices are fixed for all accounts using comparable resources. A startup business does not normally need much space or bandwidth, and shouldn't have to pay for it. However, if your needs don't fit one of our standard packages, feel free to ask for a quote.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Contract

Q. Should I go with a big or small hosting company?

A. Large companies might be have a better chance of staying in business and may be able to negotiate better deals for their customers, but small hosts are usually cheaper and provide more personal support. We've been in business a long time.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Contract

Q. Should I simply choose a cheapest plan?

A. We wouldn't recommend choosing any plan below $3 per month if you expect to get a reasonable level of technical support. There isn't that much profit in hosting.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Contract

Q. Some hosts offer "unlimited bandwidth". Why don't you?

A. There is no such thing as "unlimited bandwidth". Someone has to pay for the traffic. If your network traffic exceeds a certain fixed amount, or a percentage of their server's capability, they will charge you more or ask you to leave their service (even if they told you it was unlimited). We provide a reasonable amount of bandwidth for a low price, and offer a clear upgrade path.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Bandwidth

Q. What currencies can I pay in?

A. Our stores and payment services collect in $US and take major credit cards.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Payment    more

Q. What happens if I exceed my allocated bandwidth?

A. You will receive an automatic e-mail message warning you that you have reached 80% of your contracted limit. If it is more than 80%of the way through the month, do nothing. Otherwise decide if this is one-time (we will reset your account if it goes over) or ongoing, and if the latter, upgrade your account.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Bandwidth

Q. What if I forget my password?

A. Just contact us and we will reset it for you.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Password    Contact us

Q. What is my password?

A. We don't know, and cannot find out. If you have lost your password, we can, however, reset it for you.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Password    Contact us

Q. What is the minimum billing cycle?

A. The minimum billing cycle for any of our low-cost hosting plans is one month, but plans are cheaper if paid for in longer periods. Other accounts have longer billing cycles.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Payment

Q. What kind of support will you provide?

A. If you have a question or problem concerning your web site, the Internet, our servers, or our services, we are available. We provide the start up configuration, all the necessary documentation, and all the technical expertise.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Support

Q. Who do I contact in case of a billing problem?

A. Use the contact form on our site to tell us about the problem, and we'll straighten it out right away.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Billing    Contact us

Q. Why do you ask payment for a whole year/six months/three months on some accounts?

A. It's cheaper and easier for us, and you therefore pay less. Monthly payments cost us both more in credit card processing fees. We do offer a monthly option for the low cost accounts, but we have to charge a little more to cover the extra costs to us.

Category: Account Secondary Category: Contract

Q. Will bandwidth prices fall soon?

A. Bandwidth prices gradually decrease, and we occasionally increase the account limits for no additional charge.
